Blind Bag ponies are the latest BIG THING in Ponies. They really are not distributed in America except as a Toys R Us 'Collectors Pack' which (priced at $25) is not really a good option for someone who just wants to get a toy for a kid, or make a truly awesome Rainbow Dash keychain to declare his Brony status. America has essentially been left out in the cold for these little Ponies thus far.
Blind Bag Ponies are MLP's way of getting into the 'cheap collectibles' market. Like Collectors Cards, tiny Pony's are put in foil bags with a name card and an advertisement for the other ponies available, put into a box of 24 and then sold individually. Like baseball cards, you don't know what you're getting until you open it. Some obsessed Pony fans have cracked the code on these bags already, but that doesn't change the fact that YOU CAN'T BUY THEM IN THE USA. Right now they're ALL being sold out of Germany, with rumors of new Ponies to be released in other countries. The Blind Bag's being really fought over right now are the G4 Friendship is Magic line of Ponies. There are also a line of German Exclusive Ponies from the earlier G3 line, but they're even harder to find in the states, or even eBay.
The ONLY mini Blind bag ponies sold by Toys R Us are as follows: (See images on /new-g4-friendship-is-magic-ponies.html )
Rainbow Dash (Pegasus)
Twilight Sparkle (unicorn)
Gardenia Glow (Unicorn)
Sweet Song (Pegasus)
These 12 Ponies are available in the USA. The German release of the G4 Ponies are pretty much identical in size, shape, and quality. They just have a much greater variety. They have 18 different ponies (per release there's been 2 so far) to choose from besides the 6 main characters.
All this stuff can be found on half a dozen pony fansites. Strawberryreef.com has the BEST index of G4 Blind Bag ponies thus far, and they're listing 35+ new ponies. (http://strawberryreef.com/Index/BodyType/fim.html )
But let's talk about what the Blind Bag ponies are NOT. The Number one complaint I get from people buying a Blind Bag Pony is the size. Blind Bag Ponies are just UNDER 2" tall, while G3 Ponyville Ponies, are just OVER 2" tall. So they're about a 1/4 inch taller.
I love these ponies, and I think I love them more for their delicate size, fantastic variety of colors, and cute poses. they may not be right for you, but that's what the information is for, to let you know what they're really like.
I cannot wait until my first shipment of the G4 Wave 2's come in. Then I'll have many more pictures to show exactly what they're like.
